Obituary for Judith MacKay

Judith Elaine Palmisciano was born to Nina Bernadine (Testa) Palmisciano and Anthony Sabatino Palmisciano on Thursday, June 25, 1942. Judi was a treasured only child but was surrounded by her cousins and family that she cherished. As would be expected of an only child, Judi was always dressed beautifully. Her maternal grandmother Feliciana Testa (DeCiccio) was a seamstress and made her the most beautiful clothes. Judi was adored by her family. She was sent to private school (St. Theresa's grade school and St. Mary's Academy Bayview) to provide her the best education possible. Judi was accepted and went to Salve Regina College to pursue a career in teaching. She loved her time in Newport, the friends she made, and the beauty of living on Bellevue Avenue in dorms recreated in castles and mansions. During Judi's junior year at Salve she met William J. MacKay (Billy) (who says he fell in love with her at first sight). The summer after graduating Salve in 1963, Judi travelled Europe with her friends before returning and accepting the proposal from Billy MacKay to become his wife

August 1, 1964, Judi married Billy, honeymooned in Canada and made a home in Rumford, Rhode Island. Three months later Judi came home and told Billy they were going to be parents with Kristen Anne MacKay being born on May 29, 1965. Two and a half years later Jennifer Ann MacKay was born on October 12, 1967. The family moved and built a house in Seekonk, Massachusetts that same year. The home was filled with joy, laughter, and parties for every occasion. On January 13, 1973, Heather Lin MacKay was born and the family was complete.

In 1974 the family moved to Barrington, Rhode Island into a house built in 1898 overlooking Narraganset Bay. In this home the family flourished. There was not a holiday that was celebrated in Barrington that was not beautifully and gracefully executed by Judi. In this home Judi maintained gardens, volunteered at schools, sport teams, teaching programs to benefit children, and made lifelong friends that she cherished. Every step of the way Judi supported Billy and the girls in all of their wildest dreams. Judi's hobbies included painting, skiing, shopping at TJ Maxx, boating, and the best coffee-donut-talk around.

Judi went on to receive her Master's degree in Art with a license in holistic counseling from Salve Regina University. After moving to Florida Judi had a tremendous career and loved working at Tykes and Teens in Stuart, Florida as a Clinical therapist to help abused children. She became a guardian ad litem, representing children in courts. Judi made many friends in her workplace and was admired for her commitment to her clients.

Judi had a stroke 11 years ago but continued to live her life with grace and dignity. Her family cared for her and gathered around her at every opportunity they could. Judi was lovingly cared for in Colorado by Heather, Greg, MacKayla, and Cooper for the last 3 years of her life. Judi leaves this Earth being loved and cherished by her husband William John MacKay, her daughters Kristen, Jennifer and Heather and their husbands Nick Nardacci, John Fox and Greg Bryan. The lights of Judi's life were her precious grandchildren Maxwell, Tobias, Nicole, Sydney, MacKayla and Cooper each one knowing how much they were loved by their Nonni.

A mass and celebration of her amazing life will be happening this summer in Newport, Rhode Island at Salve Regina University.
